چکیده
I n the current issue of the European Respiratory Journal, ZHANG et al. [1] present the results of their study on functional polymorphisms of the b2-adrenoceptor (ADRB2) gene in relation to passive smoking on lung function and exhaled nitric oxide fraction (FeNO) in children 11 yrs of age. They gathered 147 children with contrasted exposure to passive smoking, taking into account exposures recorded at 1 month of age, 6 and 11 yrs. They concluded that smoking had a significant effect on associations between ADRB2 polymorphisms and asthma related phenotypes enhancing the deleterious effect of Arg16 on lung function.

Polygenic mutation in Drosophila melanogaster: genetic interactions between selection lines and candidate quantitative trait loci.
We have investigated genetic interactions between spontaneous mutations affecting abdominal and sternopleural bristle number that have accumulated in 12 long-term selection lines derived from an inbred strain, and mutations at 14 candidate bristle number quantitative trait loci. The quantitative test for complementation was to cross the selection lines to an inbred wild-type strain (the control...
متن کاملUniversity and industry: From contracting relations to strategic partnerships; providing strategic role model in university-society relations
Establishing sustainable and effective interactions between university and society has always been a concern for higher education system. However, these interactions have always been challenged for various reasons. The reasons can be attributed to the type of attitudes toward the roles a university plays in interaction with industry, the lack of value-added strategic interactions with industry,...
متن کاملPlacental Genome and Maternal-Placental Genetic Interactions: A Genome-Wide and Candidate Gene Association Study of Placental Abruption
While available evidence supports the role of genetics in the pathogenesis of placental abruption (PA), PA-related placental genome variations and maternal-placental genetic interactions have not been investigated. Maternal blood and placental samples collected from participants in the Peruvian Abruptio Placentae Epidemiology study were genotyped using Illumina's Cardio-Metabochip platform. We ...
متن کاملDrug-target interaction prediction by learning from local information and neighbors
MOTIVATION In silico methods provide efficient ways to predict possible interactions between drugs and targets. Supervised learning approach, bipartite local model (BLM), has recently been shown to be effective in prediction of drug-target interactions. However, for drug-candidate compounds or target-candidate proteins that currently have no known interactions available, its pure 'local' model ...
متن کاملInvestigating the Impacts of Teacher-Student Interactions on Improving Learners' Academic Achievements: The Role of Academic Interest
Various predictive research designs have been used to discover the relationship between learners' aca- demic achievement and the degree of teacher-student interactions they receive individually or in a group and the mediating role of their academic interest in learning. How these relation- ships/correlations work in an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) setting, however, has remained a r...
متن کاملRheumatoid arthritis-associated gene-gene interaction network for rheumatoid arthritis candidate genes
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA, MIM 180300) is a chronic and complex autoimmune disease. Using the North American Rheumatoid Arthritis Consortium (NARAC) data set provided in Genetic Analysis Workshop 16 (GAW16), we used the genotype-trait distortion (GTD) scores and proposed analysis procedures to capture the gene-gene interaction effects of multiple susceptibility gene regions on RA. In this paper,...
